World Suicide Prevention Day 2024

10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is organised each year by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the world that suicide is something that can be prevented, and is a chance for people to come together and take meaningful steps towards preventing suicide and supporting those who may be struggling to cope.

The international theme for World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 until 2026 is ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’ with the call to action ‘Start the Conversation’. The goal of this theme is to highlight the significance of reducing stigma and promoting open discussions as a key step in suicide prevention.

The Construction Industry and Suicide Prevention

The construction industry can be proud of the efforts being made on their behalf by the Lighthouse Club, Building Mental Health, and the likes of ManGang in Hampshire.

What these organisations have in common, is a commitment to challenge the stigma around mental health and suicide.

They say that knowledge is power, but it can also bring hope. Knowing that there are people out there who are willing to listen non-judgementally can bring light to the darkest of problems.
