Thankfully sexual harassment at work is not that common, but when it happens it can be very difficult to handle. The effects can be wide reaching, stressful and hard to resolve. Often it results in one of the parties leaving work, causing long term damage to their mental health and earnings. Tribunal cases are complex, lengthy and often costly.
From the 1st October 2024 The Worker Protection (Amendment of the Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 puts greater responsibility on business to take ‘reasonable steps’ to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. These changes are not intended to be a ‘tick box’ exercise, so employers are expected to have a management strategy to ensure positive reasonable steps are being taken to address sexual harassment at work.
At THSP’s Lunch and Learn on Tuesday 24th September, our HR and Employment Law consultant Andrew Wilson will talk through the changes with some very practical ways of achieving employers obligations.
