Toomey Motor Group Limited brought THSP on board in 2024 after a search for a health and safety partner that were passionate about understating the Toomey culture and team. We spoke with Julian Ingrosso of Toomey to find out the positive outcomes of our partnership.
The Challenge:
The problem faced by yourself and the Toomey team, before choosing THSP.
The main issues that the Toomey team were facing before outsourcing THSP’s services were communication issues, consistency and the incumbent suppliers resource. In addition, Toomey were finding that actions or issues raised were not being solved and that problems were created without the empathy to the culture or unique needs of Toomey. To have that empathy to support the solution as a partnership was key for Toomey, and they desired a key focus to review their current supplier and solve such issues.
Why THSP?

There are many reasons why Toomey chose the services of THSP over other companies. For instance, Julian says the passion and belief that THSP wanted to work with Toomey was a big reason. He describes THSP as a company that is big enough to have the resources, yet small enough to not be lost amongst the call centres or software only providers. He also has a firm belief that everyone at THSP is professional and authentically focused on the exact requirements of Toomey.
Toomey had multiple challenges before they partnered with THSP. Julian explains that the cultural mindset of the development of staff to the perception of health and safety was the main boundary, whereby the culture and mindset to the uptake of the health and safety process was being seen more as a problem resolved or issued everted over work created. Therefore, getting the staff to open up on their health and safety issues and understanding that the THSP team and Toomey team are hand in hand and that it is a positive element of discussion over problems created was important, as colleagues often felt that past suppliers didn’t have the connection to support staff.
Toomey decided to appoint THSP for their health and safety matters due to their professionalism, persistence and the drive and passion to want to work in partnership with the culture of Toomey and spend the effort in developing a deep understanding of the brand and the staff culture.
In terms of potential reservations Toomey may have had about working with THSP, Julian says there were considerations around whether Toomey would be important to THSP. This was based on their past experience with large health and safety firms, whereby clients aren’t offered a dedicated team and are often simply another client. Yet, THSP has so far proven that they know Toomey and they care and each of the staff is passionate about understating Toomey’s culture and team.
The Solution
How THSP’s service and strategy solved the problem Toomey faced.
The key strategy that THSP have undertaken is planning, communication and structure of their service. As well as this, THSP’s personal connections and site visit attitude and audits have been tailored to the Toomey culture. Outcomes of the visits are then provided as solutions given with a strong focus on the empathy to the Toomey team.
THSP’s approach they decided to take was to benefit Toomey’s culture and provide empathy to ensure communication is clear and positive in the pursuit of a health and safety culture. Julian says this has been positive in its transformative connection between THSP as their health and safety partner, and the Toomey team feel very connected. THSP have proven they match the care between the consultants and the support across all the key account management team to understand and connect to the culture of the Toomey Group.
When answering whether there had been anything that surprised or particularly pleased him about the process, Julian replied saying:
“Not a surprise so to speak, but the high level of professionalism yet personal passion to develop the knowledge and connect with Toomey is of a very impressive standard that has resulted already in a more positive attitude across the Toomey team when discussing health and safety, as THSP are very much delivering on being part of the Toomey team.”
The Results
The measurable results that THSP’s service has provided to date.
Julian highlights that there has been an immediate improvement to a specific work environment area that has already taken place, with a very positive reaction from the Director across that area. Furthermore, THSP’s site visiting service has been beneficial as THSP’s consultants communicated to the Toomey staff and the wider team together how certain issues could be resolved.
Since working with THSP, Toomey have had planned communication and actionable guidance, which has in turn resulted in positive resolutions. From policy creation processes to the Account Executive support staff and connection to the site team, everything has been seamless and well communicated.
Above all, Julian says that the communication, professional process and the back office and on-site team clearly care about being understanding to the Toomey team. He describes his experience with THSP’s service as professional, driven, passionate and caring.
Julian ends by saying the service has very much met his expectations and are on track to continue, and long may it continue! While it’s early days, the Toomey team are extremely pleased and say that it’s been an especially positive experience partnering with THSP.
